Duties:

  • To control and develop process and tooling efficiency throughout the site at Chard, including the Wax Injection and assembly facilities, Mould production, Casting, Fettling and Inspection areas. (£258,000 process savings in 2006).
  • Liaison with contractors for tooling and plant design and procurement.
  • Continuous business improvement through Lean Sigma and kaizen application (also heavy use of Microsoft Excel and Access based systems for production control applications and KPI analysis).
  • Manufacture and maintenance of KPI, OEE and customer and internal scorecard systems to create process change and monitor improvements.
  • Manufacture of process control information for internal and sub contract use.
  • Audits of production critical business areas to assure correct practice to customer specification, the quality management system and Departmental Work Instructions.
  • Liaison and consultation with Bodycote for heat treatment technique control.
  • Material heat treatment controls of aerospace alloys (mostly Annealing, Hardening and Solutionising).
  • Maintenance of company ‘Quality Management System’ and ‘customer approvals’

Duties:

  • This area of work enabled me to appreciate retail customer needs from a new perspective, and proved useful for a short period until more suitable employment became available.

Business: Bacon slicing and retail packing plant

Position: Group Stock Control Manager, Later Business Manager and team leader for energy efficiency improvement task group.

Duties:

  • Creation, management and development of a new company stock control department.
  • Creation of control and analytical systems for stock, sales forecasting, production planning, cost control, business auditing, human resource and key performance indicators (high level and departmental).
  • My position enabled me to play a substantial role in increasing production capacity, overall efficiency and profitability of the Scunthorpe site. Improvements were made through a positive continuous improvement policy together with staff training and development, an active “Total productive maintenance initiative” and a controlled plant investment and growth programme.
